Lands of America recently had about $1 billion in land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in Iowa. This covers a total of 82,129 acres of Iowa land for sale. Of Iowa's 99 counties, Polk County had the most rural property and land for sale. There were 3,144 acres of sold land in Iowa recorded last month through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a four percent increase in sales activity over the previous month, with a combined land value of $22 million for all property and land sold in the state. The most land sales in the state last month were located in Appanoose, Benton, Davis, Delaware, Hamilton, Marshall, and Monroe County. With its dizzying elevation extreme of a mere 1,190 feet, pancake-flat Iowa's main outdoor attractions are of the horizontal persuasion. Two national scenic byways thread the state, while any number of country roads will take you through a land of farms, covered bridges, and quiet towns. Fishing and hunting are both popular in the state, with the Missouri and Mississippi rivers both offering the chance to cast for trout, catfish, walleye, and bass. WalletHub, a personal finance website, has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including affordability, quality of life and health care. In terms of its size, Iowa is the country's 26th-largest state, covering an area of 56,276 square miles (36 million acres). Of its total landmass, 55,857 square miles covers land area, while the remaining 416 square miles is made up of water.
